Special key function for Geometry application

key function

Using Casio Geometry you can draw the following:

You can make constructions

Other constructions available are:

You can perform a number of transformations, for example a reflection:

We could then rotate the image about A’ and using the excellent viewing tools, zoom and pan to an excellent view of the result.

You can make quite complex constructions with ease using the ‘constraint based’ approached allowed (in addition to constructions) by the Casio Geometry. For example, to draw the incircle of a triangle, draw a triangle and a circle

Then constrain the circle to be tangential to each side of the triangle.

You can also make powerful animations very simply. Construct the figure of interest; measurements can be shown on the screen.

Add the animation of choice, in this case point D on the circumference of the circle.

The Casio Geometry captures every measurement associated with the construction during each ‘stop’ of the animation. You can then tabulate the measurements, offering the opportunity for students to ponder what is happening in the numerous cases the animation illustrates.

The measurements can be saved to the lists or to a spreadsheet in the fx-9860G and investigated graphically. Students have the opportunity to consider if any patterns they see may be able to be generalized and then attempt to do so.

Further analysis can then be carried out and further thinking done.
